First it was chickens, and now this!

my family and I are looking for your suppot in requesting that the city of Regina apply the same laws of ownership and keeping as you now grant to all other domestic household pets within the city, to potbelly pigs.
A potbelly pig is not livestock, they are originally inhabitants from the jungles of china and japan. They have been imported as pets since 1985. A potbelly pig are the third most intelligent animal in the world. Their high intelligence, cleanliness and unique apperance make them an ideal and unusual pet. Similar to dogs, potbelly pigs can be trained to do many things including being house broken, and even trained to walk on a leash. They sleep on blankets and play with toys similar to a dog. Bacon my pot belly pig will come to you if you offer her a dog treat.
The city of regina ordinance 2009-44 indicates that livestock, more specifically swine are illegal within city limits. but it does not mention domestic pigs, more specifically potbelly pigs. The bylaw mentioned above refers to swine as livestock, breeder and feeder pigs. Animals raised to slaughter. A potbelly pig is reared as a pet. It is of a completely different species than breeder feeder pigs. They are marketed as an exotic pet. A potbelly owner is required to walk and keep the pig on a strict diet, in order to avoid obesiety. As well the feed for a potbelly is much different from what you would give livestock. Farm animals are given feed to fatten them up, and increase the size for reasons of slaughter. Most cities in saskatchewan allow the ownership, as well as cities like calgary and vancouver.
